27. "Anderson, Laughton, Powell, Herzog" In response to In response to 1
FANTASTIC MR. FOX (Anderson, 35mm) - Surprisingly good. Story takes a back seat (the family interaction is pretty half-assed) but Wes is clearly at home in a hyper-controlled world. Probably his funniest film since RT. Some unnecessarily prominent music choices--Beach Boys and Stones overshadow the film when they are deployed.
THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER (Laughton, 35mm) - I love this film even more each time I see it. A narrative and visual triumph. A crime that Laughton never directed again.
AGE OF CONSENT (Powell, DVD) - Pretty much worthless late-career Mogambo-esque vacation film for Powell. Except for the rampant 21-year-old Helen Mirren nudity which is...majestic.
BAD LIEUTENANT: POCNO (Herzog, 35mm) - Work of a pair of madmen. Great fun. How Herzog sees America?
