It wasn't so much promoting racism as much as it was showing real life. That this is how some ppl actually talk, these are some ppl who are pimps, etc. Nowadays we've seen all of this and expect a little more, where as back then it was revolutionary to show this side of inner city life. I guess it's kinda like gangsta rap in the beginning, ppl like Ice-T and Scarface weren't necessarily promoting it but letting you see a world that isn't always shown, especially from their perspective.
