I don't see how people are reading into all of this that QT has "want to be black" issues. Although that may be true, it is not something I gathered from his body of work. It seems like many artists, he is trying to make art. Some modern artists have gotten stuck in a period where like all they do is make collages from like 70's porno box covers and stuff. These works then go on to make individual statements, but critics gather these statements from the medium in which they have chosen to work. They don't say, "the artist chose this medium because they wanted to be a porn star themself", although that may be true. There is a definite statement about why Tarantino uses pulp and exploitation as the major elements of his style. Within that context, the usage of stereotypical black characters, cheesy kung fu and other perhaps politically incorrect flourishes that reference movies from the seventies aren't offensive to me.
