This is rather bittersweet… the Daptone “House of Soul” studio in Brooklyn was utilized by everyone from Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley to Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson and even The Roots x Pharrell who recorded an (unreleased) album there entirely analog.

Apparently Daptone is closing their east coast studio to focus more on their west coast subsidiary, Penrose Records.

I am very surprised that Mark Ronson or Questlove did not step in and salvage these tape machines. (I actually purchased the TEAC tape machine that is pictured in the article because I am such a huge fan of Back To Black.)

End of an era!
