"MP3 player chronicles"
Mon Sep-26-22 10:22 PM by c71

I spoke on satisfaction about making my mp3 player very "tight" in GD a few months ago:

https://board.okayplayer.com/okp.php?az=show_topic&forum=4&topic_id=13461817&mesg_id=13461817&listing_type=search#13461821

One of the things about this that seems pretty "on-point" is that so many artists (especially Rock bands) just seem to make music that only really hits for a track or 2 for each album (as I said about Albums in general going back to the 1980's in a Lesson post a few years ago)

https://board.okayplayer.com/okp.php?az=show_topic&forum=5&topic_id=3030205&mesg_id=3030205&listing_type=search#3030276

So...(after having a iPod that had lot's of full albums on it but I barely started making playlists from all of that music - or really regularly listened to most of that music on that iPod - before the iPod broke)...I bought a mP3 player that was less expensive than an iPod but it has space for a good amount of music...ESPECIALLY if a music lover limits what is put on this particular brand of MP3 player to music that just goes above and beyond in sound quality and ability to impress.

So...the music on this MP3 player is very limited to sound quality impressiveness and musical impressiveness.

So...I'm going to chronicle little by little the additions to the MP3 player (rather than a extensive exposition of the entire thing)..

Just a little by little chronicle that celebrates how a track here and a track here on various Folders (playlists) can seem to create a thorough "asset"

I know people have playlists connected to Apple music and Spotify that they can access on their phones and save on the Cloud but....like Quest curating iPods for his friends...an MP3 player or iPod curated a certain way seems more "tangible" to a Gen-X person like me.

Ahem...let's start!

Henry Mancini Folder (playlist)

After the death of Ramsey Lewis, I checked out some Ramsey Lewis soundclips on amazon.com and came across:

Julia

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6_p62OGwW0

thoroughly lush and Henry Mancini-esque - winner

then...my mind went to the "Midnight Cowboy" sountrack. the Ferrante and Teicher version of the "Midnight Cowboy" theme seemed iconic but...I finally realized sound quality-wise that the John Barry original version with Toots Thielemans on harmonica was superior.

This was a close call but...I really don't know how I didn't easily recognize that the John Barry original with Toots Thielemans is the ultimate

Midnight Cowboy

(I also added "Fun City" by John Barry from the "Midnight Cowboy" soundtrack as weel)

Fun City

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWuHvmL1CHA

Highlights from the Henry Mancini Folder (playlist)

Henry Mancini - Mr. Lucky

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9-8Wxv6m2k

Andre Kostelanetz - I cover the waterfront

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4AHQCslpSc

Robert Maxwell - A summer song

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eA5xQdriUUQ

Quincy Jones - Soul Flower

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMr1hnFsmmk

Wes Montgomery & Jimmy Smith - King of the road

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B15cGhtdoao

----------------------------------------------------

2000's folder (playlist)

Decided I had to check out songs from "Tennessee Slim is the bomb" from Joi again on the amazon.com soundclips. I knew there was something there I was overlooking (I seem to overlook Joi a lot but keep coming back to her). Sure enough, I found several Joi tracks I had to add

Gravity

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIiGku2RJGM

Dance with yesterday

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cV_CtjwC-0

then I heard an artist on the Pandora Beach House radio station (bands supposedly a person would like if they like the band Beach House - a dream-pop indie rock band) called Weekend Players that had a few sonically impressive tracks:

Angel

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y57CM_pIilY

Higher ground

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtCDGOaPZLY

Highlights from the 2000's folder (playlist)

Prince - what do you want me to do?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nNwEtjpYLw

Amerie - come with me

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzIZob0QJGA

Faith Evans - good life

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKCSzl8CAv0

Kelis - Flashback

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGaCR0Dx99E

Jennifer Hudson - I can't describe

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fY2PXJHsXno

-----------------------------------------

Classical Organ folder (Playlist)

Checking out my various Classical organ Pandora radio stations (Robert Delcamp, Jan Lehtola, Gerhard Weinberger) I came across a couple of pretty good tracks:

Robert Delcamp - Angelus, Op. 34, No. 2 (Marcel Dupré - composer)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=um8zlhiJpuo

Francesca Massey - Prélude et fugue sur le nom d'Alain, Op. 7: II. Fugue (Composer: Maurice Duruflé)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYG2-0wqFqg

Michael Dudman - Andantino (Pieces de Fantasie)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnnvyr19LKU

Highlights from Classical Organ folder (playlist)

Robert Delcamp - 15 Versets sur les Vepres de la Vierge, Op. 18: Antiphon II (Marcel Dupré - composer)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20J_v5nUHpo

Hans-Eberhard Roß - Troisième symphonie pour grand Orgue en fa dièse mineur, Op. 28: II. Cantilène. Andantino... (Composer: Louis Vierne)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xplNev2xZkI

--------------------------------------

Anyway this is the start. If I keep finding tracks for the MP3 player, I'll keep up adding to this post about the various folders (playlists) on the MP3 player.
