of newer, close-to-mainstream r&b acts (what's the mainstream anymore?), especially among women. Only *just* checking this album and it's super solid, as expected.
Her voice is unique among her peers and she's one of the few reaching into moments of almost p-funk style vocals in the background, adding a bit of funk to her that others don't show. Along with that, her arrangements are really smart too (don't know much about who she works with).
It helps that her lyrics often feel a bit more mature than others, too.
Looking forward to playing this out for a while and pulling Sis out again, too
