"Vince Staples Album / Record Company Decisions" Fri Sep-11-15 07:47 AM by Anonymous
I'll preface this by saying that I still purchase albums in the stores so this may not be a concern for others. But I appreciate cover art and the entire package of albums.
I'm interested in copping the Vince Staples album but every time I see it in the record store it's $18-$20 due o the fact that it's a double album. Only problem is, it's only 20 songs and judging by the lengths, it looks as though it would easily fit on one disc. Therefore I don't cop because in 2015, 20 bucks for an album is absurd.
So why package it as two with an increased price?
Do they feel that the "true" fans will purchase regardless and make up the difference of the industry's current state of low sales?
I feel like they would sell more if the album was regularly priced. I guess they would have to sell twice as many albums so maybe they are making a smart business decisions but I'm not sure.
The album is also $4 more on iTunes.
And sure, I can shell out the money and not have it hurt my pocket but I just copped the new Face album, a living legend who has earned blind purchase rights from me, for $10 with bonus tracks! 18 tracks from Face for 10 or take a chance on 20 tracks from Vince for 20?
Do you think this is adding fuel to the downloading masses because I damn sure am going to just go play the album on YouTube or some shit instead of copping just off principal.
Also, can you think of other ways an album has been marketed or packaged has seemed to put off buyers?
