It's too dense and esoteric to have an instant verdict on. I feel like I'll need to give this one multiple listens before it clicks (or doesn't click).
After a first listen, I will say that it is a very bold album to release in the wake of a platinum pop-rap debut. Whereas GKMC had a Drake feature and catchy hooks in Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe and Swimming Pools, To Pimp A Butterfly has very little pop or radio appeal. Now, I see why he released 'i'...it's the only thing that leaned towards accessible on this.
Gimme another week or so and I'll have an official opinion...
