"Speaking of minds being blown, I just learned that Sugarcane Harris"
(who played with Zappa) Was the 'Don' of rock-and-roll vocal duo Don & Dewey.
I just put 'Koko Joe' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pds7FuAAYQM) on a mix CD for my daughter's birthday, was previewing it, and looked up the lysics to make sure I was mis-hearing a line. This led to Wikipedia which revealed that Sonny Bono wrote the song and that Don emerged after a ten year hiatus from the industry as a Zappa affiliate.
I'd also forgotten that DOn & Dewey did the original of Farmer John, though it doesn't hold a candle to the Premiers'.
Crazy shit.
This post ain't goin nowhere but if you want to talk about surprising reinventions or second careers in the music biz that'd be an obvious potential avenue for extrapolation.
