"NEW SONG by unknown rapper PRODUCED by big name artist."
Inspired by the De La / Dilla post, need to peep that mixtape tonight.
When I search on twitter artists I like, lets take Alchemist for example..
You'll see retweets, tweets saying bumping such and such song, Alchemist is the shit, bla bla bla.
But you'll also see New Song by unknown rapper PRODUCED by Alchemist. It's just some guy / girl rapping over an Alchemist beat.
I don't mind artists using instrumentals from big name producers, in fact I miss the jacking for beats days where guys were rapping over the hottest songs out, or throwback tracks. Most artists are using original production which is great too. But I HATE when they say its produced by so and so when they just downloaded an instrumental and rapped over it, good or bad. If you call someone out and say you're just rapping over an old instrumental that guy didn't actually PRODUCE your new "hot shit," people get all butt hurt and will say "it's the SAME thing... I'm giving him credit."
Is it really credit though? The producer whose music you're using 9/10 times HAS NO IDEA who you are, doesn't care who you are, and wouldn't work with you. I say 9/10 because you'll get a SMOKE DZA track "produced" by Flying Lotus and FlyLo def knows who DZA is.
DZA is a good example of a bigger artist because he just dropped a joint w/ a FlyLo beat and the song was posted on all the big blogs, he dropped a visual as well.
What are yall's thoughts? Do you care? Does it irk you? Does it matter who the artist is and how big their following is? IE - SMOKE DZA compared to Emcee RAPPING FROM THE FAMILY IMAC.
How hard is it to just say: New track by rapper X, beat by producer X, from their project XXX.
