"can we talk about Ringo Starr?"

1) why does he/did he get so little respect as a drummer with the Beatles? is it because the name "Ringo" sounds silly? his perceived aloof personality? he's not (and wasn't) a terrible drummer, he kept the pocket nicely. he doesn't sound amateurish like...a Meg White, for instance. were people wanting him to sound like John Bonham, Keith Moon or something? i never got the criticism of his drumming. were people just clowning in general...like we unfoundedly clown Tito Jackson?

2) i'm trying to listen to his solo catalog starting from the beginning. i understand the concept and what he was trying to achieve, but Sentimental Journey is kinda brutal...and kinda pointless, imo. any preferences/recommendations/things to look out for from solo Ringo?
