"Was R Kelly's more outrageous work tongue-in-cheek?" Mon Apr-23-12 11:25 AM by Buddy_Gilapagos
I always wondered if R Kelly was not that bright (though admittedly a musical genius) or had a very sly sense of humor with songs like "You remind me of my jeep" or "half on a baby". I think by the time "Trapped in the Closet" part 23 came out I was convinced that R Kelly was in on the joke. I think I was further convinced by the time he released "Love Letters" that dude knew full and well how to write touching heartfelt lyrics but enjoyed sticking his thumb in the eye of traditionalists with his more outrageous song lyrics.
So is there a consensus? Was Kells purposely being silly when he sang "We will take a trip to Uranus" or did dude think he was writing serious lyrics when he wrote Black Planet?
