You get past the hype, there were a few songs that displayed some semblance of soul even if still lacking (Crazy In Love, Be With You, Me Myself & I, Speechless, The Closer I Get To You). The production was much simpler, which allowed more opportunity for her voice to be showcased.
As time went on, her voice AND the production, became bogged down in "Extraness" (too much of everything, runs, loudness, percussion, etc.) She could still make a mean dance song, but her albums seemed less cohesive as you move forward. And whatever ounce of soul she may have initially displayed, had been sucked out.
