His more focused solo output has, so far, been lackluster (this and the record with Tom Misch).

This is by no means bad but I'm half way through my first listen and most of it feels like it's just sort of there. It does not have much of an identity and, for me, is lacking energy.

But this is a first listen and I could completely change my mind on the next round, lol. Maybe the second half gets more interesting.

We're spoiled these days with a lot of folks working in a similar space to Dayes and co. The interesting thing is watching who continues to stand out over time.
