"when did you lose faith in kanye west?"
kanye was great. who doesn't love the blueprint?
his debut album was interesting and fun even if his skills as an emcee were...eh.
then he teamed up with john brion and he brought fully fleshed out arrangements to the table. some moments on LR were as soulful as moments on my favorite soul records.
graduation doesn't cohere as an album to me, but it's tough to argue with the individual songs for the most part.
then 808s happened, which many reasonable ppl love...
i don't, but whatever.
then there were the GOOD Friday tracks that lead up to MBDTF. he had enough material for a double but opted to make it a single.
the stuff that missed the cut were clearly left off because it didn't fit the sound of the album... not because it wasn't grade A Stuff.
Kanye, up to this point, was an artist i trusted. i always felt like he was putting forward his best effort.
but then he took a shit on my stereo by putting his name on a compilation album where he produced no songs, and didn't even stand around the booth for quality control.
i feel like he didn't even listen to the album before he released it. Just said, fuck it... They'll buy it... who cares?
and that made me feel like kanye, as i knew him, was gone.
He was a celebrity now. Not an artist, really.
Then came yeezus, which i still like but it's not the same.
The thrill is gone.
I don't think he feels comfortable experimenting anymore.
That's sad.
But he had a good run.
When did you hop off the kanye train? Do you think he is capable of another great album?
