because to me and my ears nobody has had a better run of albums than Stevie Wonder in the 70's IMO.
Marvin gaye had a good career with great songs as a duet artist and then in the 70's he found his groove.
Prince to me as far as great albums I'll say 1999 and i dug Sign o the times though it hasn't aged that well IMO.
Dirty Mind and Controversy which are basically the same album had its strength as well.
to me his main point was dirty mind, controversy and 1999.
around the world in a day and parade were corny as all get out iMO.
aside from a few songs that was EP level material.
the Black Album was more Hype than substance IMO.
what makes Prince furstrating is that he tries so hard at the obvious and yet he wants his cake and eat it to.
R.Kelly on the other hand knows he can do what he wants, however he wants some of the now and the reality is that some folks done moved on and just want Soul music from him and nothing else.
what R has going for him unlike Prince is that he is more diverse within his brand of R&B. bottom line he keeps a track where folks embrace the now and then go back.
Prince put out way too much subpar and marginal material.
His vault ain't much in hindsight because I have heard alot of it and the best stuff was 30 years back. he ain't got nothing in their that is magic aside from Purple heads.
and Michael Jackson made better more consistant albums in his prime and peak than Prince IMO.
also MJ set a standard and nailed it.
you don't even mention the Jackson 5 era through the jacksons era where MJ had the goods.
you see Prince is a conservative cat and those covers he put out are mainly cringe worthy IMO and to put Prince into full perspective in the 90's he could truly made a statement and he didn't and he played go along to get along and made boring music which made him a oldies but goodies act.
you leave out that average Prince from the 70's for a reason. before you take shots at a Marvin, Stevie and Michael, remember they paid dues and nobody jumps out of the gate with all the hits or the money tracks and get it right.
