"Mirrors" is the obligatory "straight-ahead pop song" on an otherwise exclusively "urban" album. It's meant for Top 40 radio hence why it so explicitly sounds like an N'Sync outtake.
It's too soon for 2000s nostalgia IMO. Nostalgia usually comes in 20 year waves. Hence why the '90s are all the rage again. And the '80s were suddenly cool again last decade.
