It the other way around of how sometimes bands hide good songwriting in over producing the song as a whole.
I'm not sure I would say that it's hiding good songwriting behind musicianship but at times some bands seem to be more bent on creating an innovative song through the arrangement etc and kind of lose their songwriting in that.
Now obviously Down By The River is monumental as is...but when you hear that acoustic version on Massey Hall, you realize how good the songwriting (lyrically) is because it is broken down to its simplest form.
I think modern bands have take Neil's concept too far where they actually completely lose their songwriting at times.
