"Artists that are hiding their musicianship behind good songwriting"

I have a friend thats big into music with great musicianship so I told him to check out Grizzly Bear. He listened to some of it and he said that its just fake indie folk music and there is no musicianship behind it.

So I listened carefully about what he said when I was listening to the new Grizzly Bear album last night and it kind of makes sense. Even though the songwriting/songcraft was great, I felt like not one of the 4 members are plaing their respective instrument in a great way. I kind of feel like Radiohead are the masters at that. All 4 guys (minus Thom), are not great at what they do, but their songwriting/atmosphere music songcraft is so great that they mask on how they play their insturments, thus they are still considered one of the best.

I guess 1 (new) musician you could say that really owns his instrument right now is Thundercat.

signature pose.
