i was obsessed with MJ as a little kid. made my mum buy me moonwalk the day it came out etc. even stopped sharing food when i read mj didnt do this cos of germs lol. my cousins liked prince cos they were older but i was adadmant that mj was better. but when i turned 10 or 11 somehow prince looked more exciting.

i still liked mj and dangerous (cos i liked new jack swing and R&B of the time) but graffiti bridge and diamonds and pearls i was more interested in. and that was when i got a bit obsessed with prince, buying everything of his i could, limited editions, bootlegs, books etc etc. weirdly though, this didnt last that long, as around 93/94 hip hop came along and basically took over my listening habits. i stopped liking prince as much - though i kept a check on what he was doing - and got back into him in the late 90s.

so if im honest hes probably my 'favourite' artist, or the artist, who i can listen to new stuff from, even the crappier stuff, and still sort of like it, just cos its prince (strangely i find i also even remember whatever i hear of his more than other artists, even the stuff that my head tells me isnt that great lol). im prob more critical of him than other artists for these reasons but im no longer - and thank god for this lol - expecting or even thinking he should/could make another masterpiece/'return to form'. those (blinkered?) days are gone!
