Posted this in The Lesson but since it's more lively here I figured I'd copy/paste in case anyone's interested in this reunion, too.
Snoop and Dre are the artists who got me into music when I was 7 years old, so I'd have to speak on their reunion even if it was horrible.
But thankfully it isn't. This album is a whole lot of fun. Lot of recognizable samples (including the same used in Common's "Hungry" and De La's "Stakes is High" (two of my fave beats and songs of all time, coincidentally)) which is an interesting choice.
You can tell they both really wanted this and were hungry for it. The production feels fresh but still vintage Dre: clean, some funk, hard hitting drums, etc. Snoop's flowing like he's a young man again, and his voice sounds almost enhanced. He comes off great on this production, as usual. Sounds rejuvinated.
Standouts for me are "Hard Knocks," "Gorgeous," Skyscrapers," And "Sticcy Situation." Best beat is prolly on that last one, love the beat switch, love both versions of the beat.
Love having BJ the Chicago Kid involved, I feel like he's underrated.
The song w/50&Em is understated, love the smooth beat. I really like that one, too.
Worth a listen for everyone IMO, and especially so for those like me who have a long time love for these two artists and West Coast hip-hop/g-funk in particular. ----------------------------------------
