And while folks make a solid point that we're numb to deaths in our own country, it doesn't negate the fact that not only do we know care about deaths in other countries, we largely know very little about the rest of the world.
In true hegemon fashion, don't particularly care what happens in the rest of the world, don't know the histories or the current events. But if you speak to people in other parts of the world, you will be surprised at how much they know about the US in comparison.
Shit, even look at something like Hurricane Katrina when there was a massive swell of support from around the world vs how we respond when natural disasters strike other places.
