I ask all of my direct reports what title do you need to leave? People aren't going to make offers based on what you've been paid in the past, they will do so based on the value they place on your title history. If after 5 years you don't already have senior in your title you need to fix that stat. And then you need to ask yourself where you want to go from there. I think you are a creative, and it's perfectly reasonable to not want to go the managerial route, but you will hit a ceiling. Otherwise you should be eyeing assoc dir to dir path. Probably should do that even if you don't want to be a manager for the job security. It's all politics from there but any career will end up being at least partially about managing the politics.
