This silly sob was an important and fun figure in my early 2000s rap-listening life. He topped out about a decade in, got his victory lap run of albums after the Taylor Swift stuff, then went off the deep end until we got here.
I can still watch the Through the wire video and smile. And I still love the flip. Sorry Chaka! He fucking killed that song like he thought it was his last shot at making it. I love that type of energy in music and in general.
Look at that mfer on that video. That’s a good fucking rapper. Yeah, the drums were weak but c’mon!
At this point, I don’t trust his music and I hope he ain’t too far gone with too many burned bridges to find some kind of decently stable life. I get the hate and agree with a chunk of it, but I don’t want this dude OD’ing off of some weird drugs he was taking too much of or dying by himself in a tub, bed, or elevator. I hope that isn’t how it goes. Even if he ends up some goofball dude in his own little city or whatever, I’ll take it. I won’t fuck with his shaky ass music, but I’ll take it!
