"The Roots Grammy Jam 1/26/2020 (with videos)"

I was lucky enough to go and get in, Seandammit was also in attendance.

Videos:

The show:
Deon Cole was the host - but it turned into a tag-team with Dave Chappelle for a lot of it. During the set-up for the new acts Deon Cole was either leading the crowd in old school raps - or Dave and Deon were taking turns trying to get each other to laugh.

I missed Jac Ross and Black Pumas and came in during Tank and the Banagas. I don't remember anything because I was orienteering myself.

Deon Cole introduced The Roots, who did some songs including Rock Creek Park by Donald Byrd and Main Source's Look at The Front door. (See video 1 and video 2 in the link above)

Mumu fresh came out - which is what Maimouna Youssef goes by now (from The Roots Don't Feel Right.)

The Billy Ray Cyrus came out and sang Achy Breaky Heart with the complete Juice Newton Queen of Hearts clapping breakdown - and also does Old Town Road with Thought and Maimouna. (video 3,4, and 5, 6in the link above)

Steve Arrington came out without introduction and for about 2 minutes I didn't recognize him (vocally either) and thought he was E-40's uncle or something. The Roots gave him HUGE respect. (I thougth I took video of it, I can't find it.)

The show was running way late at this point so most folks only got 1 song after this.

TY$ came up and sang about fucking. (Video 7)

BJ The Chicago Kid did a song. (video 8)

Oh, Dave Chaeppelle rapped Paid In Full with Daymond John from Shark Tank. (video 8)

Dave and Deon back and forth is video 9.

At this point I went to the bar area (VIP BABY!) to get a glamorous diet soda. I missed Masego Band, Burna, Brianna Cash, Tiana Major9, Baby Rose, and Mereba.

I did spot some celebs including Joel McHale, possible Bill Burr, Kardinal Offisha, and some others I don't quite recall.

At some point The Roots came back on and Chronixxx came up and did one song. Thought said "HE HAS TO DO ANOTHER" and after some negotiation with question he did in fact do another. (Video 11)

Then Smino (Video 12), and Duckworth (video 13).

Then Gary Clark Jr came up and they did the remix of This Land they did on Fallon - but thought was on fire and there were so , so many N-words dropped effectively. I know they're doing it tonight on The GRammys - andf if they do the version the did last night it will cause a HUGE ruckus - and get them MAD respect. (This is the last video up there - it starts with Black Thought and Stro Eliot doing some stuff - but then it has the ENITRE This Land song at about 4 minutes in - it's worth watching.)

Got home to San Diego at 5am.

And thanks to ?uest, Sean, and Ellie for the bat signals being shown and reacted to.
