"you ever get denied a raise because of budgeting reasons?"

For the first time in my damn near 40 years of living I finally went to bat for a raise.

I'm not sure what to do. I got a soft "no".

Essentially, I'm doing good and kicking ass but the budget for 2020 has already been set so a raise aint happening.

They write out budgets for the new year in the middle of the current year.

A raise or big bonuses eats into the pool set aside for everyone else.

I was told "you're killing it, buuuuuuuuuut, we aint got the budget for you"

I was also told "keep killing it and lets talk about making a plan for next year so you can get that promotion/raise"

2021 ya'll.

But, I was also told the ask was going to be run up the pole to the next boss and that bosses boss.

So maybe shit could change, or maybe I'm just going to have to keep pushing to find a new gig. Nothing wrong with the place, I've just outgrown it.

You ever experience this sort of thing?
