President Trump on Wednesday spurred on the Kentucky high school teen suing the Washington Post for $250 million over its reporting of a confrontation he was involved in on the National Mall, saying, “Go get them Nick.”
“‘The Washington Post ignored basic journalistic standards because it wanted to advance its well-known and easily documented biased agenda against President Donald J. Trump,'” Trump posted on Twitter, quoting from the lawsuit filed by Nick Sandmann’s lawyers. “Covington student suing WAPO. Go get them Nick. Fake News!”
The defamation lawsuit accused the newspaper of “smearing a young boy” after Sandmann, a junior at Covington Catholic High School, got into a face-to-face encounter with Nathan Phillips at a March for Life event last month in Washington, DC.
Phillips, a Native American elder, was attending an Indigenous People’s March at the National Mall at the same time.
Video showed a smiling Sandmann, wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat, standing in front of Phillips as the elder banged on a drum.
Other Covington students could be seen in the background.
