"First they came for Jeremy Lin, then they came for Dr Suess."

This was a hilarious twitter exchange. Can't stop laughing:

I have to admit...after checking into the Dr Suess accusations....I did find some legitimate stuff that should be questioned. This article kinda misses the mark though:

https://www.thestar.com/news/world/2017/10/06/dr-seuss-museum-to-replace-mural-after-childrens-authors-complain-it-depicts-racial-stereotype.html

Do we think that the portrayal of a Chinese character with slanted eyes and a pointy hat and chopsticks is deeply hurtful? I wonder if there would be consensus in Chinese communities about that. There are traditional buddhist paintings that also portray slanted eyes and pointy hats and chopsticks. Thoughts on that?

The article missed what seem to me as being a much stronger case for racial stereotypes against Japanese people in this book which I would never allow in my house:
https://freshwriting.nd.edu/volumes/2015/essays/can-we-forgive-dr-seuss

And before he was famous he drew this characterization of African stereotypes which I would also disallow in my house:

https://www.google.ca/search?q=dr+seuss+racist&dcr=0&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi3i5fflt3WAhVBy2MKHctRAacQ_AUICigB&biw=1680&bih=894#imgrc=3KJfsWU5MKfXjM:

Pretty sickening stuff. Not going to make me boycott the Suess books we've used with all the kids that don't contain offensive pictures....but yah. There's definitely some problematic shit in the early part of his career that I didn't know about. Disappointing.
