I'd normally be quick to say you are over-intellectualizing too cause I've always kinda passed off that scene as a shock-hipster type thing.
Also interesting that being friends with Jules....the racism doesn't come out until a real incident occurs wherein Jules is powerless. He doesn't have time to address his friend's sudden display of racism...he needs to negotiate himself out of a predicament. The dialogue represents what's really going on and is not meant to reflect what the characters would actually 'say'. It reflects that the white friend will resort to a co-existing system of supremacy to disassociate from his black friend if an incident presents a benefit in doing so.
