Single camera comedies are so concerned about being clever, that they often forget to write actual jokes. And since they don't perform in front of an audience, there's little incentive to go for real laughs.
Think back to, say, The Office and try to count how many times they tried to pass off a knowing smirk to the camera as a joke. Single camera comedies are typically as lazy as multi-cams but they don't have the burden of coming up with laugh lines, and a lot of the audience is more forgiving of hackish writing w/out the laugh track.
