"NBA & instant reply abuse - why?"

it seems like the NBA overuses instant replay - they stop play for minutes at a time so the refs can check multiple camera views to decide whether a foul was committed or what kind of foul, which team should have possession after a ball is out of bounds, how much time remains on the game or shot clock, and whether a shot near the arc is worth 2 or 3 points. the problem is the abuse of instant reply essentially rewards the teams a time-out b/c players and coaches are allowed to consult during these official time-outs w/o having to use any of either teams' time-outs.

i'd like to see the players and coaches barred from consulting w/each other during one of these official time-outs unless one of the teams uses one of their own time-outs.

anyway, i assume this instant reply abuse is related to the Tim Donaghy situation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Donaghy#Betting_scandal). or is it about something else?

fuck you.

i don't like that it amounts to free time-outs.
May 11th 2015

why do the free time outs bother you?
May 11th 2015

b/c the limiting of time-outs is part of the game.

the time out issue is small in comparison to getting the call right

So a coach can't shout/yell instructions or talk to his players?

If a coach yells the play, the opposing team hears it.

So a player stands closer to his coach than the other team
