businesses usually order inventory on credit. net 30, net 90 whatever. he probably got behind with thie company that sells those glasses and they wouldn't fill his order until he paid. you kind of should have known because he told you he had financial isiseus. Are the glasses really that urgent for you to be calling every day? how i would handle it depends on if i've already given him the money. that wasn't clear from your post.
