The above mentioned groups I sincerely doubt believed enslaved Africans as second class i.e. Niggers. That's why they were fighting for "Equal Rights". They didn't win a full victory, but there was SOME progress made. Enough for us both to be able to sit behind a computer and bitch and moan about it at least.
The popular slogan was "Am I not a man?" not "Am I not a nigger man?"
No one would risk their life for someone they believed was beneath or less than them. You may be confusing the mentality of those at the top (who sign laws into effect) with those at the bottom who seek the laws to be changed.
I'm glad my often used Malcolm-X quote has found a new home though.
