2. Sony Pictures (Columbia) is the distributor and co-financier of the James Bond movies. The primary studios behind them are Eon Productions (the British company that actually does the work) and MGM. MGM went through bankruptcy a few years back and is now too small and weak to fund and distribute films on its own, hence Sony's involvement in the James Bond franchise.

While Sony Pictures - and therefore Amy Pascal - has some say in the matter of who plays Bond, it's not solely their call.
