doesn't mean it's bad, of course, but the dishonest misuse of geographical indicators in food is stupid. When restaurants started selling Kobe burgers and whatnot about 15 years back, you couldn't even get actual Kobe beef in this country.
Real Kobe beef is $200/pound. And up. Even non-Kobe authentic Wagyu - meaning beef raised in Japan from a number of traditional Japanese breeds - is $40/lb and way up.
You get the real stuff, you don't make burgers out of it. Most of what's sold as Wagyu or even Kobe is several generations away fromm actual Japanese breeds that have been crossbred with American or Australian breeds.
