Was looking for someplace warm where we could just chill at a resort that wouldn't be crazy expensive. Mexico is hard to beat for that. Its really close and affordable. Going to Cabo San Lucas this time but have been to Tulum and Cozumel. Tulum was awesome.
That said, my favorite beach vacation place is Hawaii. Been to every (major) island. It's insanely gorgeous, has a dope culture, feels a little like a different country but its not, and no "its nice as long as you dont leave the resort" vibes. Plenty to do but also easy to just chill and do nothing. Its expensive though.
We thought about a cruise this time but decided against it. Seems cool if you're fine with being on a cruise ship as your vacation and not going to a destination. I couldn't get it to add up for me. Every time I priced one out it quickly escalated from "this seems like a great deal!" to "Id rather just fly somewhere and actually experience the location instead of eating buffets around 1000 people". Living close to a port would help.
I'm not really into all-inclusives. Seems like with the ones that are cheaper, you get what you pay for. Did that once and hated eating the whole vacation. Never again. The place I'm going to in Cabo has an all inclusive option with good food, but youd have to eat and drink an insane amount for it to be worth it. Then theres inevitably the "oh well this isn't included, its an additional charge" BS. Id rather be out trying different local restaurants most of the time anyway.
