so we have FREE shows in one of the parks in the summer and fall Seun was one of the acts in the series, which i thought was kinda odd, but there was no way i was gonna miss it cause nobody comes to Memphis
So if you ever have been to a Kuti family show, you know they talk between songs, not the least of which is black liberation. He's in Memphis. I'm sure you can see where this was going.
At some point, somebody (white) shouted something about 'play some music' to which he replied 'i'm not a jukebox. if you don't like it, you can go get your money back'. We're in a fairly liberal part of town so that got the crowd going and some people ended up leaving and the show went from 9 to 11. Energy skyrocketed.
At the end of the show, one of the spokespeople came out and apologized, and the boo's just rained down, since, it was obviously quite embarrassing for them to come out and try and do damage control for the sponsors, especially when you could have easily listened to Seun's music and know what you were getting. i've never seen anything like it, man. Easily one of the best shows at Levitt Shell.
