Kind of a thought experiment and this might not make sense, but...

After seeing the video for 4:44 I wonder if Jay Z is also talking about hip hop

Further, I've been wondering if there has been a long standing tradition/canon of holding a response to Common's 'I Used to Love H.E.R."

I was thinking this with Drakes 'Hotline Bling'

So, without going to deep into it, have rappers been making a reference to hip hop in songs where a woman is the central subject. I wonder if its a bit of metaphorical thinking at play.

I can't prove this but this is something I can't stop thinking about.

I know call and response references between songs and rappers has always been a thing so it strangely makes sense in my brain
