50. "In the sense of the "scary Black male harming the white female" myth" In response to In response to 36 Wed Mar-22-17 11:34 PM by Boogie Stimuli
If you mean anything other than that (and you do), you are incorrect.
This incident doesn't exist in a vacuum. It exists in a society and culture of "The Birth of a Naton (the 1915 version)", the bombing of Black Wall Street, Emmitt Till (and countless lynchings in the same vein), the myth of the Black rapist that white feminists used to get funding for crisis centers... the same one presidents have used to get elected... the same one our sitting president used to take out an ad calling for the execution of innocent 14 yr old Black male children.
>But I'd argue inversing the race of the participants >(including the witnesses) is going to produce just about the >same results.
Correction: You are arguing that race is only a minor factor in a white supremacist system, which is to say that, as a white person, you are practicing racism (white supremacy), as that is one of the main ways it is practiced. You are either ignorant of the facts presented above or you don't care about them. Either way, your contribution to this discussion is one that only serves to further harm Black people, and I strongly suspect that this is what you aim to do whether consciously or unconsciously, as you seem pretty dedicated to this insistence that we not focus on race in a system that has harmed us (and continues to harm us) based on racial classification... not just minor harm either but some of the most brutal harm in human history.
