$9K/yr is a part time McDonalds job with money left over.
After paying $250K on a crib you're still left with $750K. If you can't make that work for you for at least 20 years then something is definitely wrong with your money management skills. Even if you pay taxes on that $1M you'll be left with $550K-$600K and even with that you're still left with enough money after buying that house to live comfortably for a good while without a job if you manage that money properly.
