I was listening to Bret Ellis Easton's podcast with guest Kim Gordon today and they were talking about Madonna. I agreed with his summation....that Madonna doesn't really understand why we liked her so much. Namely, she had some REALLY good songs. Without that....she wouldn't have been Madonna. The sexual liberation messages were sometimes poignant...but ultimately would have been transient without songs like 'Oh father', 'Papa don't preach', 'Celebrate', 'Like a prayer' etc.
It's like she thinks her entire career was a result of her image-driven antics and it really wasn't. She should get back to the songs. And good songs can transcend age.
