I see fire as a utility. It's not needed in the summer yet I've seen white ppl have bonfires in summer. For what?
I ask bc I was just invited to a bonfire in a couple of weeks. It makes sense bc this is autumn and the air is chilly at night. However, last month I attended a backyard BBQ on a warm night and after sundown the host (white guy) lit a fire in his fire pit and folks (white) sat around it and chilled. It was warm out that night. Why the fire? I've seen the same at another BBQ during summer. I don't get that (beyond fire is cool to stare at, I guess). So I asked here.
The answer so far is 'bc fire is cool'. That's an acceptable answer.
