they weren't enough to sustain the biz model in this area.
the joints had a lot of traffic at first...but it died out.
it's just tough wrapping one's mind around paying $4+ for a bowl when one can go buy a whole box for around that price, if not less. it won't become a regular thing - like getting a breakfast sandwich or coffee from McD's/Dunkin/Starbux/et al. a $4 bowl of cereal isn't filling enough to be a meal at lunchtime on a regular basis. if anything it's a snack. a $4 snack. a novelty.
i think the cereal bar thing is a good idea but it needs to be included in some joint that offers other, more attractive items that one would seek to purchase regularly. like if McD's or Dunkin or any other fast-foody breakfast joint had a cereal bar i can see that working out for them. but as a stand-alone biz? i dunno.
the joint failed here but seems to still be in biz in other locales. so maybe it failed here due to some logistical or internal issue. having been inside one of the stores (i didn't eat b/c of the cost) i don't see that model working out but it's been going for yrs now. maybe you're right.
