That first album was, for the most part, a hot fucking mess. But Top Dogg and Last Meal were both excellent specifically because they let him do his own thing, like you said...with a little southern hospitality mixed in, which was fine. That first album shoulda never happened but I get why they did it. But his trip to No Limit was more for protection from Suge and for funding for his own work. And I'm glad they realized that and let him do him for the last two albums there.
