What really annoys me is when athletes tap their chest and then point up to the sky lol
Like wtf are they pointing towards the sky for - is God sitting on top of the shot clock or something
I really think it diminishes or miniaturizes ppl's ideal of a supreme being if they think that of all the really serious and life threatening matters going on in the world that this divine being that they believe in and pray to has time to intervene in a game and decides who loses and wins
It's really absurd when you really think abt it
I thought that's what Oliver Stone attempted to subtly capture in "In Any Given Sunday" in the scene where the priest is essentially giving the players a pre-game pep talk using scripture and then he ends the speech with a prayer before the players went out on the field and commenced to trying to destroy each other
