Once you put your lips through the paces of saying something, even putting your mind through the paces of mentally thinking it (only time I even allow myself to mentally think it is hearing/reading the word or recalling someone else's expression), you've made it that much easier for the word to slip out around others. The fact that I HEAR the word constantly and casually (around black family/friends, music, podcasts, movies, etc) already presents enough of a danger of slipping up some day.
Side note: its extremely rare that I hear a white person say it in any context, even when talking about the word or singing a song. I know my experience is nothing more than anecdotal, but fwiw thats what it is
