BORGATA HOTEL CASINO & SPA ANNOUNCE RESIDENCY WITH THE ROOTS

Exclusive Performances Elevate Atlantic City’s Premier Entertainment & Nightlife Destination

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (June 23, 2009) – The Legendary Roots Crew – most recently known for their tenure as the house band for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon – has announced their residency at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, Atlantic City’s foremost entertainment destination. Beginning Friday, July 24th, the Grammy-award winning Roots are set to launch an exclusive series of shows at Borgata’s intimate Music Box theater, each show featuring a special musical guest. Following each performance, the band will host an official Borgata Nightlife afterparty, the first to be held at MIXX, with music by guest DJ and Roots’ member, Questlove.

“As Philly natives, we have been to Borgata before and know its the leader in the Atlantic City nightlife scene,” said Questlove. “We couldn’t be more excited to make Borgata our new home,”

“We’ve long looked at artists that we felt would be a natural fit for a residency at our 1,000-seat Music Box theater, but also had the unique ability to transcend into our nightlife offering and represent the multi-dimensional entertainment experience Borgata offers,” said Joe Lupo, Sr. Vice President for Borgata. “The Roots are a special band that unequivocally embody these qualities-- with a longstanding, highly successful career and deep roots in this region --and we could not be more pleased to welcome them to their exclusive home in Atlantic City.”

THE ROOTS are enjoying their greatest critical and commercial success of their already-stellar 15-year career. The band recently held their annual ROOTS PICNIC in Philadelphia selling out the 7,000-capacity FESTIVAL PIER and garnering rave reviews from Rolling Stone, Blender and many others. Famed for beginning with a jazzy, eclectic approach to hip hop and their use of live instrumentals, The Roots have generated a great deal of critical acclaim and influenced numerous rap and R&B acts since their debut album in 1993.

Tickets for the first performance on Friday, July 24th, are priced at $49.50 and will go on sale this Saturday, June 27th at 10 am. The performance at The Music Box will start at 10pm. Tickets for concert can be purchased by calling 866. 900.4TIX or visiting theborgata.com. The MIXX event will start at 11pm (nightclub opens at 10pm) and cover charge is $10.
