This post is going to have absolutely no form. This is just the kung-fu flick post. I love kung-fu flicks, ever since I saw "5 Deadly Venoms" on Kung-Fu Theatre on a Sunday afternoon when I was a little kid.
This is just a post to ask questions, build, get reviews, recommendations, etc...
** I think Wu-Tang Clan both helped and ruined the kung-fu flick game. In one way, they helped popularize it again, and make alot of flicks available. It went from bootleg VHS tapes readily available from mail order (I always got mine out of New York with the big, bulky cases). A couple years later, you could find the dvd reissues in your local mall. The only problem is, since Wu-Tang was what people checked for, you never knew what movie you were getting, because they kept renaming the movies based off Wu-Tang. You could pass up "Legendary Weapon of China" 'cause it would be called Method Man Temple or some shit.
in a good way, the DECLINE of Wu-Tang's popularity, and the rise of the little kung-fu flick subculture made the movies available, but the dvd's are no longer $22.99...and have gone down to $14.99, which is more like it.
Be careful of cool-sounding movie titles, 'cause they don't mean shit. Check on websites, and google titles if you can...try and get a review. "Flying Guillotine", and "Legend of the Liquid Sword" both bored me to tears.
My favorite flicks of all time are 1. 8 Diagram Pole Fighters, aka The Invincible Pole Fighters 2. 7 Grandmasters 3. Shaolin & Wu-Tang 4. 5 Deadly Venoms 5. Fist of the White Lotus
I'm not strictly an older "Shaw Brothers head" (2 of those movies aren't), but the newer flicks tend to be a tad more expensive, which I partially blame on Tarantino. "Shogun Assassin" is highly recommended, but I can't find it, and my man told me it's just an edited version of Lone Wolf & Cub. I tried to check for those flicks, along with alot of older samarai flicks, and those shits go for like $29.99 on dvd each. Not biting.
** In some instances, VHS bootlegs are better than the dvd release, 'cause alot of my dvd releases were editing out major parts of the movies. "8 Diagram" edited my fav. part (when the father jumped up and smashed his head on the sign, before he doed standing up), and "Kid with the Golden Arms" was BUTCHERED!
I'm trying to check
Legendary Weapon of China Shaolin vs. Ninja One-Armed Swordsman
Overrated titles you might want to stay away from Flying Guillotine Legend of the Liquid Sword Born Invicible (I shrill at the sound).
7 Grandmasters just dropped on dvd...cop that.
More later. Avatar? E-Boogs and Nayi
