I'm not really trying to prove you wrong. just that I think its a role that's often overlooked when people say "Pacino's been screaming since Scent of a Woman" and he IS capable of a more controlled performance if the part calls for it.
as for his on-stage style, I'd say it's mostly a combo of him being just right some of the roles that call for it (Glengarry Glen Ross), and that he probably just enjoys it much more than something more subtle.
I don't think he's gods gift to acting, but i think he's proven enough to go down in history as one of the greats.
I agree that his best work was in the Godfather (can't really choose). I don't really get your beef with Dog Day Afternoon, or his performance in it. both are outstanding
