what's stopping black actors from forming a mini-union and just flat out refusing to do shitty movies? i know they gotta eat, but dam, can one generation of black actors take an "L" for the good of the people? for the good of future minority actors everywhere? there have got to be at least 5 great black filmmakers out there, i'm talking about unknown film school dropouts, who have a million ideas about how to do films starring black people without making the films specifically ABOUT their blackness (or stereotypical equivalent thereof). why can't we make a concerted effort to FIND them, FUND them with oprah and magic johnson money, and FUCKING get their films made??? our people have GOT to get out of this entertainment rut we're in. i agree with johnbook that it should start with the actors, just cause they're the easiest group to mobilize. unfortunately, i lack the time and energy to come up with a coherent plan. somebody finish my thought.
